After‑School Micro:bit Instructor
Tinker On Labs is a hands‑on STEM education company based in the Bay Area, delivering engaging after‑school programs, camps, and enrichment workshops for elementary school students. Our programs focus on engineering, electronics, coding, and creative problem‑solving through real‑world, project‑based learning.
Position OverviewAs a Tinker On Labs After‑School Instructor, you will guide young engineers through exciting hands‑on projects using the BBC Micro:bit, helping students explore coding, electronics, and engineering concepts in a fun and supportive learning environment. You will follow Tinker On’s structured curriculum while bringing energy, creativity, and strong classroom leadership to every session.
Key Responsibilities- Teach after‑school Micro:bit classes to students in grades 2–5
- Lead hands‑on activities involving coding, circuits, sensors, motors, LEDs, and interactive projects
- Implement Tinker On Labs’ curriculum and lesson plans with clarity and enthusiasm
- Manage classroom behavior and create a positive, engaging learning environment
- Encourage teamwork, problem‑solving, and curiosity
- Communicate professionally with parents and school staff when needed
- Set up and clean up classroom materials before and after each session
- Track student progress and provide feedback to program coordinators
- Experience working with children (teaching, tutoring, coaching, camps, etc.)
- Strong understanding of Micro:bit and block‑based coding (Make Code preferred)
- Comfortable teaching basic electronics concepts (LEDs, sensors, motors, buttons, etc.)
- Excellent communication and classroom management skills
- Reliable transportation to school sites in Fremont / Tri‑Valley area
- Passion for STEM education and working with young learners
- Background in engineering, computer science, education, or related field
- Prior experience teaching STEM, robotics, or coding to elementary students
- Familiarity with project‑based learning and design‑thinking approaches
- Teaching credential or education coursework is a plus (not required)
- Typically 1–3 afternoons per week (2–3 hours per day)
- Programs run during the school year and summer sessions
