and in our ogeeche behavioral health division, serving residents of burke, emmanuel, glascock, jefferson, jenkins, and screven countries in georgia. the community service board of middle georgia's rise up department is seeking a dynamic and resourceful individual to serve as our next peer support worker! Reporting to the program manager, our peer support worker will have a focus on providing recovery support services to people that self-identify as being in or seeking recovery from substance use disorders. This person will uphold the culture, principles, and values of recovery in all aspects of services provided to individuals, family members, friends and allies.

This person will provide connections to local recovery communities with the arsc, as well as treatment and recovery support services outside of this community as well.

responsibilities of the peer support worker
  • provides peer support to people who have experienced challenges with substance use or misuse in arsc, at recovery events, meetings and over the phone
  • provide information and facilitate development of relationships with individuals, support/mutual aid groups, and service providers when appropriate
  • manage boundaries in relationships and adjust in accordance with the guidance provided by team leadership
  • provide support to families and allies of people that self-identify as being in recovery or who have challenges with substance use
  • assist program manager in the implementation of new services, meetings, workshops, community trainings, etc. Based on feedback from the advisory board and community
  • keep and maintain accurate and comprehensive records in accordance with guidance provided by team leadership, including but not limited to, one on ones, pcoms, wrap plans, etc.
  • regularly check voicemails and respond to any peer requiring peer support services, including aso submissions
  • complete weekly opening/closing duties and sign off on appropriate documentation as required, reporting any damages/maintenance needs to the appropriate parties
  • travel, using a company vehicle, to assigned advocacy/recovery events throughout the state, when required
  • performs all additional duties as assigned
requirements
  • high school diploma/ged equivalent
  • two (2+) or more years of substance use recovery
  • excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a high level of professionalism and the ability to work effectively with diverse populations
  • valid georgia driver’s license
  • ability to work independently and in collaboration with others
  • experience with microsoft 365 office products
  • ability to obtain the certified addiction recovery empowerment specialist (cares) certification within your first year of employment, required by dbhdd
preferred qualifications
  • three (3+) or more years of substance use recovery
  • cares certified
