Overview

Biomedical Technician / Equipment Support Specialist - Level III / BME TO40 - VISN7

We are seeking a skilled Biomedical Equipment Technician to join our company’s dynamic team. The role focuses on ensuring the reliability, functionality, and safety of medical equipment at the VA, including preventive and corrective maintenance, inspections, device security, installations, electrical safety, recalls, software updates, and Cerner integration.

Responsibilities
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance on a diverse range of medical equipment to ensure optimal functionality and extend equipment lifespan.
  • Diagnose and repair malfunctions in medical devices, following manufacturer guidelines and technical specifications.
  • Carry out incoming inspections of new medical equipment to verify safety, functionality, and accuracy.
  • Collaborate with IT and cybersecurity teams to implement and maintain medical device security protocols, protecting patient data.
  • Install, calibrate, and configure medical equipment according to manufacturer instructions and safety guidelines.
  • Conduct electrical safety inspections and address potential hazards related to equipment operation, cords, and plugs.
  • Monitor and address hazard and safety recalls, coordinating with manufacturers and relevant departments for resolution.
  • Perform software repairs and updates on medical devices to improve functionality and compatibility with other systems.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, and inspections using a CMMS.
  • Provide technical support and training to medical staff on proper operation and handling of equipment.
  • Stay informed on industry trends, regulations related to biomedical equipment technology, and apply knowledge to daily tasks.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless equipment operations and contribute to patient care.
  • Experience with Cerner electronic health record (EHR) systems and integration is preferred.

Basic Qualifications Qualifications

The Contractor key personnel shall meet one of the following basic qualifications, regardless of role in the services provided under this contract:

  • Experience with in a medical center and Biomedical Engineering department
  • OR experience working in or with the Veterans Health Administration (VHA)
  • OR understanding of VISN, VA medical center, and Biomedical Engineering department operations
Role Specific Qualifications
  • A two-year associate degree or higher in an applied science or equivalent military training.
  • Demonstrated competency to perform operational verification procedures, planned maintenance, and repair service on various medical equipment.
  • Understanding of regulatory agencies’ requirements, industry regulatory requirements, and ISO standards.
  • Familiarity with the setup and application of test equipment.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical literature, schematics, and drawings.
  • Level III experience – a minimum of five years of hospital or healthcare experience performing medical equipment maintenance.
Eligibility
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or in the future.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the required federal public trust clearance for this role.
  • Must provide proof of COVID vaccination and Flu vaccination during flu season, or provide appropriate documentation supporting a medical or religious exemption.
Compensation

Salary for this position is determined by location, candidate qualifications, and contract requirements. The proposed salary range is $50,000 - $65,000.
