We’re looking for a creative, detail-driven Associate Editor to join our editorial team at Ohio Magazine. This role blends digital storytelling with traditional journalism — perfect for someone who can jump from producing short videos for social platforms to reporting feature stories for print and online. This is a full-time, hybrid position (Columbus area preferred).

What You’ll Do

Pitch, report, and write stories that highlight travel, culture, food, history, and people across Ohio for both print and digital channels.

Cover festivals, events, and seasonal happenings throughout Ohio, often on location.

Produce and edit short-form video content (Reels, Tik Tok-style clips, on-location shoots) that complements our editorial coverage.

Comfortably appear on camera for short videos, interviews, standups, and on-location pieces.

Assist in planning monthly and seasonal editorial calendars.

Edit stories for grammar, clarity, structure, and tone using AP style.

Work within Adobe InCopy to prepare stories for print and digital workflows.

Crop, color-correct, and optimize images using Adobe Photoshop for web, social media, and print layouts.

Collaborate with editors, designers, and freelance contributors to maintain quality and consistency.

Help manage digital platforms, including website story updates, newsletters, and social media posts.

Engage with tourism boards, PR reps, and Ohio communities to uncover compelling story ideas.

What You Bring

Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, English, or a related field (or equivalent relevant experience).

Strong reporting and writing skills, with clips that show your ability to tell engaging human-interest, travel, or lifestyle stories.

Demonstrated experience producing and editing short-form digital videos, including filming and basic audio capture.

Comfort and professionalism on camera for quick-turn social videos and location shoots.

Ability to collaborate and work in a close team environment

Knowledge of AP style and strong line-editing skills.

Proficiency with Adobe InCopy (Adobe Photoshop and InDesign experience is a plus).

Ability to manage multiple deadlines with accuracy, organization, and attention to detail.

Familiarity with CMS platforms and digital-first storytelling best practices.

Ability to report to our Columbus office each Monday as part of our hybrid workflow.

A passion for exploring Ohio and covering what makes the state unique.

Bonus Skills (Not Required)

SEO knowledge and experience with digital analytics.

Basic graphic design skills

Prior experience working with tourism boards, museums, restaurants, or cultural organizations.
