The Instructional Assistant (IA) runs a classroom of 4–8 students, providing educational instruction based on each student’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and Clinical Treatment Plan. Working with the Director, the IA creates the daily schedule and delivers both individual 1:1 instruction and group learning using Applied Behavior Analysis principles. Services may address individualized mental‑health and educational needs, including therapeutic behavior intervention, psychosocial rehabilitation, intensive intervention, and education services.
Responsibilities- Treatment Room Organization: IA sets up classroom areas such as teacher desk, independent centers, and instructional area; creates schedules and sub‑plans; maintains a clean and organized room.
- Safety:
Maintains proper supervision of children in care, ensuring a safe environment and teaching self‑help/adaptive skills. - Discrete Trial Training:
Implements ABA procedures, including correction, verbal behavior teaching, errorless learning, prompt fading, and variable‑ratio schedules of work to reward. - Behavior Support Plan Implementation:
Implements behavior support plans with strategies such as social extinction, therapeutic rapport, and rational detachment. - Administrative Duties:
Uses professional ABA language; submits data collection, dismissal checklists, progress reports, and other required documentation in a timely manner. - Professionalism:
Recognizes potential problems, presents solutions professionally, follows IA and all staff policies, and creates a positive working environment. - Provide behavioral health services following the client’s treatment plan, including CPST and/or TBS services when qualified.
- Data Collection & Reporting:
Completes data collection, progress notes, and communicates client progress per internal procedures. - Team
Collaboration:
Works collaboratively within a treatment team and implements feedback as directed. - Physical Care:
Change diapers, provide toilet training and assist children who have eloped from treatment areas. - Staff Development:
Participates in staff development, education and training. - Productivity:
Meet the required 2.5 hours of group sessions per week. - Additional Duties:
Serve as substitute for other staff, maintain competencies per evaluation, and report intervention needs to supervisors.
- Education:
Must hold an associate degree or higher from an accredited institution; OR at least 2 years of study (48 semester hours) at an accredited institution; OR certification as a Registered Behavior Technician. - Experience:
Prior experience with Applied Behavior Analysis or special‑needs children is preferred. - Training:
Must complete agency QBHS training upon hire. - Skills:
Ability to follow schedules, multitask, prioritize assignments, solve problems effectively, and communicate with supervisors. - Compliance:
Follow all legal, licensing, ethical, and confidentiality requirements.
2.5 hours of group sessions per week.
