Part‑Time Field Inspector Job Summary

Lerch Bates is hiring a Part‑time Field Inspector to bring in‑depth elevator knowledge and provide an essential service for the company. The field inspector will manage their own schedule to ensure all inspections, subsequent reports, and related tasks are completed in a timely and courteous manner.

This is a contingent part‑time position and is not currently eligible for benefits.

• Complete field surveys for all moving conveyances that transport people and/or items. This includes but is not limited to elevators, escalators, man‑lifts, wheelchair lifts, and dumbwaiters.
• Complete all subsequent reports following inspections.
• Manage your own schedule to ensure inspections and subsequent reports are completed on time and in a courteous manner.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Thorough knowledge of the installation and maintenance of the conveyance equipment and current elevator code.
• Previous experience in the elevator industry; QEI/CEI certification is highly preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail.
• An ability to pay strong attention to thoroughly inspect the equipment.
• An ability to work on top of high‑rise buildings and elevator shafts.

This role involves both physical and mental demands and may be performed in various settings, including offices, construction sites, and confined spaces like elevator pits. Tasks often require frequent movement in multiple directions. Lerch Bates will provide reasonable accommodations upon request through Human Resources.

This role requires regular sitting, talking, and hearing in meetings and by phone. Employees must navigate tight spaces, climb ladders, move around construction sites, take measurements, and travel by car, air, or rail. Duties may involve working at heights and in confined spaces, using hands for tasks like typing and operating elevator components, and applying up to 30 lbs. of force.

Close visual attention is also required.

This position requires strong written and verbal communication, problem‑solving, and analytical skills. Employees must interpret complex information, apply mathematical and logical reasoning, quickly learn new skills, and manage detailed, multitask workloads under shifting deadlines.
