Responsibilities- Promote the mission, vision, and values of SCA.
- Assess patient’s preoperative and postoperative status according to facility policies and procedures, including the cardiovascular, respiratory, neurological, hemodynamic stability, pain and comfort needs, and mental status.
- Interpret information from noninvasive and invasive monitors.
- Describe pathophysiology of common disease processes and the physiology of anesthesia techniques and surgical interventions.
- Apply discharge criteria for patient transfer (e.g., Aldrete score, PARSAP, PADSS, etc.).
- Develop and implement an individualized perianesthesia plan of care.
- Manage patient recovery from anesthesia and protect from injury; provide pain management and education; communicate patient status across the perioperative continuum.
- Administer medications safely using the 8 rights of medication administration.
- Maintain wound/tissue perfusion integrity and homeostasis of body systems.
- Protect patient from infection; manage co-morbid conditions as applicable; manage fluids as prescribed.
- Provide age-specific, culturally competent, ethical care within legal standards; protect patient rights and privacy.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and participate in quality improvement initiatives.
- Document nursing care completely and accurately; participate in hand-offs and patient education.
- Adhere to facility policies and participate in daily safety huddles.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
- Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing.
- One year of Preoperative or PACU experience required; medical/surgical nursing experience also relevant.
- Current state licensure in good standing.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) or Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) within 90 days of employment or current certification.
- ACLS within 90 days of employment or current certification.
- PALS required within 90 days if pediatric care is included in facility scope, or current PALS certification.
