Position: Manager Trainee, Summer 2026 Start

Job Summary: Under general supervision, this position is responsible for learning the management of small driver count and/or non-traditional shifts (including nights and weekends), ensuring safe and timely service movement of freight, load assignment, and providing best-in-class customer service. This position will be trained to ensure compliance with DOT regulations and manage all drivers’ compliance and company regulations while planning, routing, monitoring, and delivering freight and loads.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build and maintain positive professional relationships with drivers and reliable outside carriers to ensure seamless new carrier set‑up and minimize turnover.
  • Fill in for absent or unavailable personnel and complete special projects related to optimizing fleet operations and achieving profitability.
  • Utilize personnel management including training and orientation of drivers and employees, and assist with internal and third‑party customer systems.
  • Maximize fleet efficiency and profitability, recommend continuous improvement, measure key performance indicators, and present customer‑specific reporting and financial analysis.
  • Manage inventory, assets, customer pools, and assignment of drivers to balance equipment in the market.
  • Perform administrative duties such as payroll, budget management, driver counseling, accident reviews, filing, documenting, resolving pay issues, analyzing P&L statements, invoicing, and creating operational or financial reports.
  • Manage yard duties, inspect equipment, replace parts, coordinate with maintenance, and schedule preventative maintenance services on time.
  • Work with drivers, customers, and company personnel to resolve service, routing, mechanical, accessorial pay, and other issues throughout the day and on call.
  • Maintain the company safety culture, daily driver safety messages, monthly safety briefings, quarterly training, annual reviews, and enforce DOT compliance and safety requirements.
  • Assign loads and plan, route, and monitor freight movement to provide safe, on‑time service and meet customer requirements, including managing exceptions and driver ETA adjustments.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED with up to 4 years of equivalent education, experience, and training and enrollment toward a degree program with up to 2 years of equivalent education, experience, and training.
  • Bachelor’s degree with ability to work across multiple shifts including nights and/or weekends if needed.
  • Willingness to travel to account, customer, and company event locations when applicable.
  • Preferred:
    Bachelor’s plus 1 year of or equivalent education, experience, and training, prior internship training.

Compensation

The expected starting pay range for this position is between $46,200 and $69,300. Salary range: $51,719.85 – $63,000. This position may be eligible for annual bonus and incentives based on profitability or volumes.
