Description
  • The Retail Pharmacy Supervisor is responsible for the operation of the Retail Pharmacy Department and for achieving established quality and financial budget outcomes.
  • Ensures the provision of comprehensive pharmaceutical care services to all patients and customers in areas of responsibility.
  • Leads colleagues in standards of quality of care, inventory control, and intra‑ and inter‑departmental communications.
  • Responsible for selecting, developing, and maintaining a team of competent staff.
  • Holds self and team accountable for achieving the highest level of quality of care, customer service, and employee satisfaction, and recognizes contributions for desired results.
  • Driven to meet and exceed customer expectations.
  • Assists the Pharmacy Director in setting long‑ and short‑range goals based on developments and trends in Retail and Long‑Term Care Pharmacy practice.
Scope Of Service/Customer
  • Under the general direction of the Pharmacy Director, plans, organizes, and manages lead retail pharmacists, retail pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and other support personnel.
  • Serves as a leadership resource for those working in the retail pharmacy.
  • Assumes a proactive role in improving quality.
  • Patients served range in age from newborns to geriatrics; customers include departmental employees, peers, physicians and their office staff, vendors, patients, families, visitors, etc.
Essential Functions
  • Adhere to Mercy One Dubuque Medical Center’s Model of Caring and Trinity Health’s Code of Conduct, fostering a climate where all customers are treated in a manner consistent with Mercy One’s Mission and Values.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State and local laws and regulations, Trinity Health’s Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct, and other policies to ensure adherence.
  • Provide input to the Pharmacy Director regarding new service opportunities and strategic planning; participate in the development of new services that support the organization’s strategic initiatives.
  • Ensure assigned departments have appropriate human resources, including hiring, counseling, performance evaluation, and training standards.
  • Serve on designated committees and task forces; plan and attend meetings regularly.
  • Develop a team approach to working with staff and departments, building an engaged and team‑oriented atmosphere across pharmacy departments and the organization.
  • Recommend and implement improvements; evaluate changes and develop policies and procedures.
  • Assist in establishing and monitoring workload and productivity.
  • Assist in developing and monitoring department budgets.
  • Supervise or perform the responsibilities of Lead or Staff Pharmacist in their absence.
  • Provide competent care to the patient populations served, using data-driven decision making and age‑specific knowledge.
  • Collaborate with the financial assistance team to mitigate cost barriers for patients.
  • Review and respond to monthly budget variance reports; problem‑solve as needed.
  • Approve pay‑period end payroll, edit timecards and schedules, and ensure productivity metrics are met.
  • Review and approve invoices and expenditures from assigned departments.
  • Take an active role in enhancing the ability to carry out job functions through personal and professional development.
  • Support and abide by all medical center, departmental, and safety policies; proactively identify safety concerns.
  • Perform other responsibilities as requested and perform other duties consistent with the purpose of the job.

Required

  • Know and adhere to all laws and regulations pertaining to patient health, safety, and medical information (e.g., HIPAA, Stark).
