Shopko Optical is seeking a Part‑time Optical Sales Associate to join our team in Dubuque, IA. The role focuses on delivering excellent patient and customer service in the selection, ordering, and dispensing of eyewear. Responsibilities include assisting patients with frame selection, lens recommendations, home lens care, and support of optometric examinations, as well as managing inventory and medical billing.

Provide excellent patient and customer service in the selection, ordering and dispensing of eyewear. Complete pre‑screening activities prior to patient exams, prepare work orders for the optical lab, process medical billing information, and maintain frame inventory.
Duties and Responsibilities- Deliver exceptional customer service according to company and center standards.
- Analyze patient eyewear needs and recommend appropriate lenses, coatings, and frames.
- Assist patients in selecting frames, ensuring proper fit and prescription compatibility.
- Order and dispense eyewear accurately and professionally.
- Perform frame repairs and adjustments.
- Teach patients how to insert, remove, and care for contact lenses.
- Assist the optometrist with case histories and screenings.
- Maintain thorough knowledge of third‑party plans and claims.
- Explain promotions and special lens offerings to patients.
- Balance accounts and prepare work orders for the optical lab.
- Process medical billing information and ensure proper merchandising of frame inventory.
- High School Graduate or equivalent.
- Maintain license as required by state.
- Complete Shopko OCE certification requirements and calendar modules.
- Preferred previous experience in an office and/or optical dispensing.
- Ability to handle multiple customer interactions/phone calls simultaneously.
- Ability to analyze prescriptions, perform repairs, and adjust lenses.
- Effective verbal and written communication at all levels.
- Read, write at a high school graduate level.
- Sit or stand for extended periods.
- Operate various office equipment (PC, telephone, fax, copier).
- Lift 10 to 20 pounds.
- See (nearsight, distance, color, depth perception).
- Manual and finger dexterity; hand/arm steadiness.
- Grip and hold items; good eye and hand coordination.
- Operate a cash register and optical equipment/tools.
- Work normal and/or extended (evenings, nights, weekends) office hours to meet deadlines.
- Travel independently to support company objectives and personal development.
