Summary / Objective

The CNC Mill Operator is responsible for producing high-quality machined parts by operating CNC (computer numerical control) machines and other equipment.

Essential Functions

  • Complete tasks and conduct behaviors consistent with promoting a standard of excellence.
  • Comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures, and report any unsafe situations to management or human resources.
  • In-person, on-site, predictable attendance and punctuality in alignment with the position’s scheduled hours.
  • Prepare and operate CNC machines to perform such tasks as turning, drilling, milling, and tapping.
  • Perform offsets on CNC equipment.
  • Monitor tool wear and perform tool changes as necessary.
  • Prepare and load raw materials and parts onto or into machines.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow manufacturing blueprints, written instructions, and process plans.
  • Basic understanding of GD&T and/or other dimensional standards.
  • Monitor machines during production to ensure optimal efficiency and quality.
  • Use measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, gauge pins, thread gauges, dial indicators, and optical comparators to verify parts are within specification.
  • Perform periodic inspections to ensure process accuracy using blueprints and inspection sheets.
  • Utilize material handling equipment as required.
  • Record all machine actions by completing production logs, inspection logs, and all other required documentation.
  • Interact with ERP system and computers as required.
  • Perform daily operator maintenance on CNC machines.
  • Use additional manufacturing equipment as necessary (e.g., deburring tools, belt sanders, buffing wheels, drill press).
  • Follow all departmental work procedures and company policies, including all company safety policies.
  • Participate in maintaining the company’s quality system and adhere to standard operating procedures as applicable.
  • Participate in employee training programs and communication meetings.
  • Ensure the work area and equipment are properly maintained to provide a clean, safe, and efficient work environment.

Physical Demands

  • The ideal candidate must be able to complete all the physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Standing, walking, and sitting for most of the time. Occasionally required to stoop or kneel.
  • Use hands and arms to touch, lift, reach, grip and grasp.
  • Talk and hear frequently.
  • Occasional exposure to production floor elements such as noise, dust, fumes, odors, and heat.
  • Medium work:
    Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or general education development (GED) required.
  • 1–2 years of CNC operator experience preferred.
