SUMMARY / OBJECTIVE

The Lathe/Mill CNC Setup is responsible for the setup and operation of CNC machines and other equipment to produce high‑quality machined parts.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Complete tasks and conduct behaviors consistent with promoting a standard of excellence.
  • Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures, and report any unsafe situations to management or human resources.
  • Maintain in‑person, on‑site, predictable attendance and punctuality in alignment with the position’s scheduled hours.
  • Prepare and operate CNC machines to perform tasks such as turning, drilling, milling and tapping.
  • Understand GD&T and/or other dimensional standards.
  • Interact with ERP system and computers as required.
  • Follow department setup work instructions.
  • Record all machine actions by completing production logs, inspection logs and all other required documentation.
  • Gather required tooling, gauging, fixturing and other required materials per documentation.
  • Set up CNC machines using provided process sheets, job traveler and other documentation as required.
  • Proofread programs and understand the process before mounting tooling into the machine.
  • Mount tools and tooling‑holding systems into machines.
  • Set tool offsets and work coordinates during setup, referencing any special instructions as applicable.
  • Dry run programs to verify programming, tool clearances/locations and setup.
  • Inspect first pieces to the blueprint and make necessary program changes and tool offsets to meet blueprint requirements.
  • Ensure quality of setup and monitor machine to ensure efficiency and quality are to specification.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues during setup and production.
  • Analyze processes and look for improvement opportunities.
  • Communicate necessary information about setup and production to operators and other staff.
  • Assist operators with troubleshooting of production issues as necessary.
  • Perform as CNC Operator as needed.
  • Follow all departmental work procedures and company policies, including all company safety policies.
  • Participate in maintaining the company’s quality system and adhere to standard operating procedures as applicable.
  • Participate in employee training programs and communication meetings.
  • Ensure the work area and equipment is properly maintained to provide a clean, safe and efficient work environment.
  • Perform miscellaneous duties and projects as assigned and required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • The ideal candidate must be able to complete all the physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Ability to follow verbal and written work instructions.
  • Standing, walking and sitting for most of the time. Occasionally required to stoop or kneel.

  • Occasional exposure to production floor elements such as noise, dust, fumes, odors and heat.
  • Medium work:
    Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
  • 1‑2 years of CNC operator experience preferred.
