Mercy One Dubuque is the leading hospital in the tri‑states, offering the only comprehensive cardiology center and level II regional neonatal intensive care unit in the area as well as the newly constructed Mercy One Dubuque Cancer Center. Other services include a trauma center, a CARF‑accredited inpatient rehabilitation unit, home health care, orthopedics, retail pharmacies, palliative care, and a wide range of outpatient and community services.

Mercy One operates two hospital‑based skilled nursing units and a 40‑bed nursing home.

As a Registered Nurse at Mercy One, you will provide and direct safe, effective, and culturally competent care for patients with acute medical and surgical conditions. Through evidence‑based practice, you will utilize critical thinking to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate outcome‑based care. The Acute Care RN manages a diverse patient population with varying levels of acuity, including post‑operative, medical, telemetry, and neurologic patients.

You will supervise and coordinate care provided by LPNs, Patient Care Assistants, and other nursing team members, facilitate communication with physicians, patients and families, and interdisciplinary team members, and adhere to Mercy One’s performance expectations while upholding the Mission, Vision, and Values of Mercy One.

Essential Functions
  • Conducts assessment
  • Identifies patient problems and develops plan of care
  • Implements outcome/goal‑based plan of care
  • Evaluates patient progress and revises the outcome/goal‑based plan as needed
  • Communicates relevant clinical information to the team to optimize patient outcomes/goals
  • Demonstrates clinical competence
  • Manages telemetry and cardiac monitoring when applicable
  • Provides care appropriate to the age‑related needs of the patients served on his/her assigned unit
  • Adheres to all safety, infection control, and colleague health policies and procedures
  • Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, Trinity Health’s Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior.
Schedule
  • 0.9 FTE, 36 hours per week
  • Night shift: 6:00 pm – 6:30 am
  • RNs work 12‑hour shifts
  • Block scheduling for weekends and holidays
  • Nurses have the ability for self‑scheduling
Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate degree in nursing required
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
  • Possession of a current or compact state licensure as a Registered Nurse issued/defined by the State of Iowa
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) required
  • American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required only if the unit has telemetry monitoring capabilities
  • Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter – Child and/or Dependent Adult Abuse training within three (3) months of hire
