Buyer
Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Buyer to join our clients Supply Chain team. This role is responsible for strategically sourcing and managing key metal commodities aligned with operational requirements, return on investment targets, and cost-saving initiatives.
As a Buyer, you will utilise strong market knowledge, analytical expertise, and negotiation skills to secure optimal sourcing agreements, ensuring high-quality supply and competitive pricing.
Key Objectives
* Maintain stock levels in line with agreed stock turn targets to maximise ROI.
* Ensure consistent stock availability to meet forecasted sales demand.
* Proactively manage slow-moving or redundant stock.
* Negotiate optimal pricing, payment terms, and commercial agreements with key suppliers.
* Develop and maintain long-term supplier relationships.
* Ensure all product quality and procedural requirements are consistently met.
Responsibilities
* Develop and implement procurement strategies that deliver cost savings and improve supply chain efficiency.
* Conduct market analysis to identify trends, risks, and opportunities within commodity purchasing.
* Manage supplier relationships, monitor performance, and resolve issues to maintain high standards.
* Collaborate with internal stakeholders to align procurement with business needs and demand forecasts.
* Continuously review sourcing strategies to enhance supplier diversity and mitigate risk.
* Analyse pricing trends and provide insights and recommendations to senior management.
* Monitor stock levels using re-order systems within agreed parameters.
* Review and support excess and obsolete (E&O) stock strategies.
* Maintain and update supplier databases including existing and potential suppliers.
* Support regulatory and compliance initiatives, including CBAM requirements.
* Ensure all purchasing activities comply with corporate governance, health and safety, and regulatory standards.
Requirements
* Experience in procurement or commodity buying, ideally within manufacturing, engineering, or industrial environments.
* Demonstrated success in supplier negotiations and relationship management.
* Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret market data and trends.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred
* Experience developing and implementing procurement strategies.
* Knowledge of ERP or procurement systems.
* Professional procurement certification (e.g., CIPS, CPSM) desirable.
* Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience with data analysis tools.
* Understanding of supply chain management principles.
Benefits
Working Hours:
Monday – Friday (9am to 5pm)
Early finish at lunchtime every other week
25 days holiday plus bank holidays
