School Caretaker

About the Role

An educational setting is seeking a reliable and practical School Caretaker to support the safe, secure, and effective day-to-day operation of the school site. This is a vital role, ensuring the premises are well maintained and provide a safe environment for pupils, staff, and visitors.

The successful candidate will be proactive, hands-on, and able to work independently while liaising effectively with school staff and external contractors.

Key Responsibilities

Opening and closing the school premises, including alarm setting and site security

Conducting routine health and safety checks across the site

Carrying out basic maintenance, repairs, and general DIY tasks

Ensuring the school buildings and grounds are clean, safe, and well presented

Managing waste disposal and accepting deliveries

Supervising contractors and reporting maintenance issues

Responding to emergencies, including occasional out-of-hours call-outs

Supporting with room layouts for events and school activities

Ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations at all times

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

Previous caretaking, site management, or maintenance experience

A practical, solution-focused approach to work

Sound knowledge of health and safety procedures

Ability to work independently and manage workloads effectively

Good communication skills and a professional attitude

Flexibility to work outside normal hours when required
