Residential Support Worker

Coalbourne Lane, Stourbridge
£12.93 per hour
£50 per sleep-in
24-hour shifts available (including sleep-ins)

We are currently recruiting Residential Support Workers to join a specialist residential college setting supporting young people aged 16-21 with learning disabilities, mental health needs and some challenging behaviours.

This is a rewarding opportunity to support students outside of the classroom environment, helping them develop essential life skills and independence in preparation for adulthood.

About the Setting

Residential provision for young people aged 16-25
Supporting students in education with special learning needs (LD, MH, some challenging behaviour)
Capacity for 44 service users
Sixth form provision
Part of a group of 3 specialist colleges
Ofsted inspection due
Key account for temporary staff
Free on-site parking

This is a residential environment (NOT classroom-based support).

The Role

As a Residential Support Worker, you will be part of a team home providing structured, consistent and person-centred support to students living within the residential setting.

Your role is focused on supporting young people to build confidence, resilience and practical life skills in readiness for independent living.

Key Responsibilities:

Supporting young people aged 16-21 within the residential homes
Assisting with daily living tasks including cooking, budgeting, laundry and personal organisation
Supporting morning routines and preparing for college
Welcoming and supporting students when they return from college
Supervising homework sessions and structured evening activities
Promoting emotional wellbeing and positive behaviour management
Supporting individuals with learning disabilities and challenging behaviours
Encouraging independence, choice and social inclusion
Recording daily notes, safeguarding concerns and incident reports
Working in line with safeguarding policies, Ofsted standards and internal procedures
Contributing to risk assessments and behaviour support strategies
Working collaboratively with colleagues and external professionals

This is a hands-on role that requires resilience, empathy and strong communication skills. You must be able to remain calm under pressure and build positive, trusting relationships.

Shift Patterns

Day

Shifts:

8:00am - 3:00pm
8:00am - 4:00pm
10:00am - 3:00pm
8:00am - 10:00pmNight

Shifts:

Sleep-in: 10:00pm - 7:00am (£50 per sleep)
7:00am - 9:00am (waking support)24-hour shifts available including sleep-ins.

Requirements

Experience supporting young people or adults with learning disabilities
Experience managing challenging behaviour
MAPA training preferred (especially for temporary staff)
Understanding of safeguarding practices
Flexible and reliable approach to shift work
Strong teamwork and communication skills
