Wychbury Medical Group is looking for a dedicated Practice Nurse to join our team at our busy practice.
This is a post in General Practice for 30-37 hours per week, to be agreed at appointment, depending on experience and service needs. The role includes extended hours cover with a requirement to work until 8pm on Thursdays.
Join a well-established nursing team of 6 practice nurses with a range of skill mix, 2 nurse associates and 1 healthcare assistant. The Practice has a diverse patient population. We care for 22,000 patients across three surgery sites, with some home visiting required.
Main duties of the jobWe are seeking applicants with some practice nurse experience with management of long term conditions and experience providing essential treatment room services as described in the job description. Experience in wound care and immunisations is essential.

Practice Nurse

Job Summary:
To assist medical personnel in the care of Practice patients to include treatment, preventative care, screening and patient education. To provide and maintain a high standard of nursing care for patients as well as providing nursing assistance to the doctors and other members of the primary healthcare team. Care will be provided both in the Practice and community setting.
Job Responsibilities:
Providing assessment, screening and treatment services and health education advice
- Providing nursing treatments to patients in participation with general practitioners or independently to agreed protocols.
- Provide general and specific chronic disease management to patients (within agreed protocols) with referral to general practitioners as necessary.
- Advise patients on general health care and minor ailments with referral to GPs as necessary.
Other Duties:
- Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by senior nursing staff and GPs
- Cytology
- Removal of Sutures
- Travel advice and vaccines
- ECGs
- Long Term Condition management
- Venepuncture
- Routine immunisations/Childhood immunisations
- Chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriate who are being examined by another clinician
- Assisting GPs with minor surgery and coil fittings
- Requesting pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs
- Following agreed clinical protocols with referral to senior nurse or GPs as appropriate
- Maintaining and cleaning equipment
- Maintaining GP and Nurses rooms, stocking and rotating items as required
- Maintain general tidiness and cleanliness of nurses and treatment rooms
- Ordering of vaccinations to maintain stock levels
- Participation in administrative systems in the Practice
- At all times there will be a need to maintain accurate records
- A duty to advise senior nurse of potential problems or errors within the range of assigned tasks
- Attend and participate in any practice meetings when required
- Undertake home visits when required
- Other delegated duties appropriate to the post
Pathological specimens and investigatory procedures:
Following appropriate training, undertake the collection, storage and despatch of pathological specimens including intravenous blood samples, swabs, smears etc and ensure the cleanliness of any equipment so used. Perform any investigatory procedures requested by the GPs.
Administrative and professional responsibilities:
- Participate in the administrative and professional responsibilities of the Practice team.
- Ensure accurate notes of all consultations and treatments are recorded in the patient's notes on the clinical computer systems as appropriate.
- Ensure accurate completion of all necessary documentation associated with patient health care and registration with the Practice.
- Ensure collection and maintenance of statistical information required for regular and ad hoc reports.
- Attend and participate in Practice meetings as required.
- Assist in the formulation of Practice philosophy, strategy and policy and develop appropriate protocols.
- Maintain a notice board in the waiting area designated for patient health care education.
Research projects:
- Co-operate and participate as required in any research projects within the Practice
Student/Staff education and training:
Participate in the education and training of students of all disciplines and the induction of all members of practice staff with special responsibility for nursing staff.
Maintain effective liaison with other agencies and staff concerned with patient care and with all other disciplines within the Practice, with appropriate regard to confidentiality.
Professional Development:
Maintain continued professional education by attendance at courses and study days as deemed useful or necessary for professional development.
