Specialist Palliative Care Nurse

We are offering an exciting opportunity to join the established and dynamic Specialist Palliative Care Team as a Palliative Care Nurse. We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated nurse with a passion for palliative care. Have you undertaken recent study to support your knowledge and skills in this area? Are you experienced in undertaking projects, education, working autonomously and collaboratively within a multi‑disciplinary team?

Then we are looking for you.

You will be working within the Hospital carrying out holistic assessments and reviews of patients with palliative care needs. As the post holder, you will work within the nurse specialist team and Consultants, delivering specialist palliative care interventions to patients, including symptom management and psychological support, alongside providing advice and support to families and staff.

You will demonstrate excellent communication skills in supporting patients and their families and must be committed to providing high‑quality compassionate care. A commitment to teaching and education is equally important, working across organisational boundaries to give staff specialist advice and guidance as required.

If successful, you will be involved in implementing and embedding a number of key initiatives to enhance palliative and end‑of‑life care. • Takes personal responsibility for ensuring effective communication between all service providers.
• Actively participates in multi‑professional meetings, acting as patient advocate and representing nursing views.
• Acts as a role model for excellent advanced communication skills and expertise.
• Demonstrates skills in conflict resolution and competent negotiation skills when dealing with difficult or challenging situations.
• Leads the development of patient‑focussed education, including training to self‑manage ongoing consequences of treatment.

• Post‑basic qualification in palliative care/Cancer or working towards.
• First‑level degree in a related subject or working towards.

• Relevant post‑registration experience Band 5 or above in palliative/community/oncology.
• Advanced communication skills.

• Teaching/mentoring experience.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exemptions Order) 1975 and as such, it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
