Winnebago Mental Health Institute (WMHI),

, is looking to fill a Medical Director position. This position will work Monday through Friday, 7:45am to 4:30pm. WMHI is a part of the Department of Health Services (DHS), Division of Care and Treatment Services (DCTS) and is a psychiatric hospital providing quality mental health services to children, adolescents, and adults.

As the Medical Director, you will assume responsibility for the organization and administration of medical staff and medical staff functions.

Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating medical staff issues and institute issues with the Governing Body and external agencies.
  • Overseeing the functioning of the clinical organization of the institute and supervision of the clinical work in all services.
  • Assisting with the institute administration.
  • Supervising the Pharmacy, Medical Clinic, and other medical areas.
  • Providing consultation about treatment issues in the services.
Salary Information

Starting annual salary
* is up to $409,032, plus excellent benefits.

  • * Salary includes an add-on of $23.00 per hour for board certification in psychiatry and $23.00 add-on for management responsibility. The add-on for board certification eligibility is $8.00 per hour.
  • A 12-month probationary period is required.
  • Pay for current or former state employees will be set based on the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction.
  • This position is classified as a Psychiatrist Management and is in pay schedule/range 50/52.

All applicants who may be appointed to this position will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.

All appointees will be required to receive a TB test, which will be administered by the facility or medical personnel directed by the facility prior to their start date.

DHS does not sponsor work visas for this position, thus, in compliance with federal law, selected candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire. DHS is not an E-Verify employer nor a STEM-OPT eligible employer.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants will have all of the following:

  • Licensure or eligibility to obtain licensure to practice medicine in the State of Wisconsin (WI) and a minimum of three (3) years in an approved residency in psychiatry. Eligible means being licensed to practice medicine in another state and will be obtaining a WI license. License must be obtained prior to appointment.
  • Board certified or eligible to obtain board certification in Psychiatry. Must be obtained prior to appointment.
  • Experience working within a 24/7 accredited behavioral health or healthcare‑related operation (inpatient or outpatient), performing direct psychiatric practice and therapeutic intervention in accordance with current standards set forth by Joint Commission and Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA).
  • Experience supervising subordinate staff (e.g., planning, organizing, monitoring and directing staff, coaching or assuring performance concerns, overseeing disciplinary process, etc.).
