The Science Museum is currently seeking an enthusiastic and detail-oriented Part-Time Special Events Coordinator to help bring our events to life! This role is perfect for someone who enjoys creating memorable experiences, working with a dynamic team, and contributing to events that engage and inspire Museum guests.

In this role, you will be responsible for supporting and executing a wide range of events that create engaging, high-quality experiences for guests of all ages. The Special Events Coordinator supports the planning, coordination, and execution of events by serving as a point of contact, assisting with facility setup and breakdown and ensuring exceptional service delivery and adherence to organizational standards.

This role works closely with staff, clients, vendors, and guests to ensure events are executed efficiently, safely, and in alignment with the Museum’s mission and policies. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, customer-focused, and able to work independently while contributing positively to a collaborative team environment.

Please note that this is a part-time position and hours will vary each week based on operations but no more than up to 29 hours a week on average with a maximum of 1500 hours in a 12-month period. Qualified candidates must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and demonstrate the ability to interact professionally and courteously with diverse audiences. Applicants must have strong customer service skills, the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team, and the capacity to manage multiple tasks with attention to detail. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace is required, along with the ability to perform basic business math and accurately handle cash and credit card transactions.

Candidates must have a working knowledge of basic audiovisual and lighting equipment and be able to follow established procedures and safety protocols. A valid Virginia driver’s license and successful completion of a criminal background check are required. Candidates must also maintain current First Aid and CPR certification or be willing to obtain certification upon hire. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is essential.

Prior experience in event coordination, hospitality or a related field and knowledge of guest service best practices and facility operations is preferred.
