We are seeking a flex Roadway Construction Inspector (CM Inspector
2) to join our Quality Management and Construction Inspection practice team in Duluth, GA. The successful candidate will perform on‑site construction inspections of various transportation‑related construction projects, including bridge and highway projects. Project locations may be anywhere within the Central Savannah River Area, including Putnam County.
This position supports engineers and lead inspectors in the management of construction activities on large, complex construction projects. Work usually involves significant decision‑making and the use of judgment and may include providing directions to others.
Job Responsibilities- Conduct independent or moderately complex inspections of roadway and structural construction to ensure compliance with contract specifications.
- Inspect and test materials such as soils, aggregates, asphalt, and concrete for quality and proper mix.
- Evaluate pavement for correct spreading, rolling, depth, alignment, and compaction.
- Inspect roadways and structures for conformance to approved plans and specifications. Monitor structural components and operations, including foundation excavation, placement of culverts, piling, reinforcing steel, structural steel, concrete, and backfill.
- Monitor the installation and maintenance of traffic control and erosion control devices.
- Perform complex calculations and field measurements for contract documentation and pay item verification.
- Maintain accurate and complete project documentation.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Degree in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, or Construction Management and two (2) years of progressive transportation technician experience; OR a two‑year degree in Civil Engineering Technology and five (5) years of progressive transportation technician experience; OR a high school diploma or GED and seven (7) years of progressive transportation technician experience.
- An equivalent combination of training and directly related experience.
- Preferred
Certifications: - GSWCC Level 1a (Erosion Control).
- GDOT WECS.
- GDOT Field Concrete Technician or ACI Concrete Field‑Testing Technician Certification.
- Thorough knowledge of specifications and standards, acceptable construction practices, materials, methods, and equipment used in highway construction and engineering.
- Ability to read and comprehend construction plans, contract provisions, specifications, inspection procedures, and all other documents associated with the project.
- Thorough knowledge of mathematical functions, including algebraic, geometric, and trigonometric calculations related to highway/transportation engineering.
- Possess a valid Georgia Driver's license.
- Abide by Atlas health and safety policies and procedures.
