Mortgage Loan Officer

To originate, evaluate, and recommend mortgage loan applications while delivering exceptional service to credit union members. The Mortgage Loan Officer will assist members in the mortgage application process, provide expert guidance on mortgage products, assess financial status, and ensure compliance with regulatory and internal lending policies.

• Meet with members to discuss mortgage loan needs and options.
• Guide members through the mortgage application process from start to finish.
• Analyze members’ financial and credit information to determine loan eligibility.
• Recommend appropriate mortgage products based on member needs and qualifications.
• Keep members informed throughout the loan process, ensuring a smooth and efficient transaction.
• Request flood certification to identify if property is or is not in a flood zone.
• Perform various preliminary reviews on loan files such as title reports, flood determinations, hazard binders and appraisals.
• Order title work from attorney.
• Maintain knowledge of current mortgage rates, programs, and regulatory requirements.
• Submit complete loan packages to underwriting for approval and respond to any conditions.
• Attend real estate and community events to promote mortgage products and generate leads.
• Maintain accurate records in Encompass or other mortgage software systems.

• Interview loan applicants to gather required information and explain loan options.
• Evaluate credit reports, income statements, and debt-to-income ratios.
• Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and internal regulations.
• Communicate effectively with internal departments, title companies, attorneys, and appraisers.
• Develop and maintain relationships with realtors, builders, and other referral sources.

Education:

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Bachelor’s degree in finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.

Required Knowledge:

• Working knowledge of mortgage lending products, underwriting, and compliance standards.
• Understanding of federal and state mortgage regulations.
• Familiarity with real estate transactions and closing procedures.
• 2+ years of experience in mortgage lending or financial services preferred.
• Prior experience as a loan officer, mortgage originator, or related role highly desirable.
• English is must. Hindi/Urdu will be a plus.
• Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
• Proficient in mortgage loan origination systems, Encompass preferred.
• Detail oriented with strong organizational and analytical skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
• You must be able to sit for extended periods and use a computer.
• Occasional travel for community outreach or member meetings may be required.
• Ability to lift to 10 pounds occasionally (documents or promotional materials).
