Senior Accountant

$70,000.00/yr - $84,000.00/yr

Under general supervision, performs professional accounting, technical review, and budget support duties; reviews, verifies, and reports financial and technical transactions; analyzes and researches financial records, and ensures compliance with accounting standards and College of St. Scholastica (CSS) policies and procedures.

• Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year‑end close, and prepare and review journal entries, reconciliations, and analytics for complex account balances.
• Prepare payroll and benefit journal entries, complex investment entries, and other revenue and expense entries across multiple funds, including intercompany entries.
• Prepare financial statements and schedules with commentary for internal and external use; review and update accounting policies; assist with the preparation, coordination, and successful completion of annual financial audits, annual 990 filings, and other compliance requirements.
• Regularly assess internal controls to safeguard assets and support accurate and complete financial statements.
• Respond to accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data; collaborate effectively with university staff to provide accounting and financial support and guidance.
• Develop and distribute financial reports as needed; assist with various project requests and deadlines.
• Provide leadership and oversight to the accounting team to ensure timely completion of tasks.
• Hire, train, and manage accounting staff, ensuring staff completes job duties in accordance with policies, procedures, and performance expectations.
• Delegate tasks appropriately between accounting staff based on departmental and institutional needs.
• Oversee, approve, and update internal and external communications regarding policies and deadlines for the Accounting department.

• Provide leadership and oversight to the accounting team to make sure tasks are completed in a timely manner.
• Hire, train, and manage accounting staff, ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, and performance expectations.
• Delegate tasks appropriately between the accounting staff based on the needs of the department and the College.
• Oversee, approve, and update internal and external communications regarding policies and deadlines for the Accounting department.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible financial analysis or budgeting experience.
• Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem‑solving skills.
• Demonstrated experience with financial modeling, forecasting, and data analysis tools.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial data to diverse audiences.
• Proficiency with financial software and advanced Excel skills.
• Supervisory or team‑leadership experience.

• Master’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, or related field.
• CPA preferred.
• Experience in higher education or non‑profit financial management.
• Familiarity with ERP or financial systems (e.g., Banner, Workday, Oracle, or similar).
