Summary

The Peer Recovery Specialist will provide services in Withdrawal Management and Residential Programs as needed and directed by their Program/Treatment Directors. The Peer Recovery Specialist will provide excellent service in all functional areas of their work, which includes regular interaction with patients, CADT employees, and the surrounding community. Services are to be provided before, during and after Substance Use Disorder treatment to help individuals connect with resources that support recovery.

Peer Recovery Specialists assist clients with their recovery through personalized, one‑on‑one sessions. They work closely with clients to identify and achieve specific recovery goals outlined in individual, treatment, or stabilization plans. Their main responsibilities include promoting self‑sufficiency and self‑advocacy, supporting the development of natural support networks, and monitoring recovery progress. They also maintain client confidentiality and ethical standards while providing ongoing encouragement and motivation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Serve as a resource for patients with direction and guidance as needed.
  • Monitor patients providing urine for analysis as needed.
  • Maintain positive public relations with referring agencies and businesses in the community.
  • Locate appropriate staff members and/or supervisor to respond to client needs when necessary.
  • Responsible for light clinical documentation.
  • Provide education and mentoring through self‑disclosure of personal recovery experience.
  • Provide non‑clinical recovery support to assist the transition from treatment into the recovery community by helping patients identify and develop natural support networks to reinforce their recovery.
  • Encourage the establishment of healthy relationships that support long‑term recovery goals.
  • Receive ongoing supervision in areas specific to the domains of the recovery peer’s role by an alcohol and drug counselor or an individual with a certification approved by the commissioner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Certified Peer Recovery Specialist approved by the commissioner that demonstrates skills and training in the domains of ethics and boundaries, advocacy, mentoring and education, and recovery and wellness support.
  • One (1) year of sobriety from substance abuse.
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have the ability to learn and apply clinical data entry in an electronic health record system.
  • Have a working knowledge of issues regarding confidentiality.
  • Must pass background studies issued by the Minnesota Department of Human Services.
  • Possess strong verbal and written skills and demonstrate the ability to present a positive professional image.
