We are seeking a detail-oriented, proactive Legal Assistant / Paralegal to join a premier legal team in Duluth, MN. In this multi-faceted role, you will play a critical part in managing casework, preparing legal documents, and facilitating seamless day-to-day operations. You will support attorneys with legal research, draft court filings, organize case materials, and manage trial preparation in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
- Legal Drafting & Research:
Draft basic pleadings, motions, subpoenas, discovery requests, and formal correspondence; assist attorneys with legal research and docket searches. - Case & Document Management:
Organize and maintain physical and electronic case files across multiple active matters; execute electronic court filings (e-filing) and maintain document repositories. - Trial Preparation:
Assist with trial readiness by creating trial binders, managing exhibit logs, and organizing hearing/arbitration materials. - Communication & Coordination:
Serve as a reliable point of contact for clients, court clerks, and opposing counsel; summarize depositions and client intake notes. - Deadline Management:
Track critical court deadlines, manage attorney calendars, and ensure timely filing and service of process.
Skills &
Qualifications:
- Legal Research & Drafting:
Hands-on experience with legal databases (e.g., Westlaw, Lexis Nexis, Minnesota e-court services/dockets) to conduct research and draft routine filings. - E-Filing & Software:
Proven experience using court electronic filing systems, case management platforms, and document management tools. - Technical Proficiency:
Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and PDF management tools (e.g., Adobe Acrobat) for document preparation and redaction. - Communication & Proofreading:
Superior written/verbal communication skills with keen attention to legal detail and accuracy. - Time Management:
Exceptional organizational skills to handle complex filing systems and balance competing deadlines across multiple cases. - Education / Certification: ABA-approved Paralegal Certificate, or an Associate/Bachelor's degree in Legal Studies preferred.
Pay offered to a successful candidate will be based on several factors including the candidate's education, work experience, work location, specific job duties, certifications, etc.
