Overview
Highly responsible supervisory work planning, directing and coordinating road maintenance operations in a highway division of the County.
EligibilityThis position is part of the Civil Service Supervisory Unit Employees Collective Bargaining Agreement represented by the St. Louis County Employees Association.
ResponsibilitiesAn employee in this class is responsible for planning, coordinating and directing staff, equipment and materials resources available to accomplish construction, repair and maintenance of County roads in a highway division of the County. Duties include assessing emergency, and short-term and long-term road maintenance requirements in conjunction with 5 year road construction plan; determining emergency and winter call outs; administering gravel pit management;
prioritizing maintenance activities; directing and monitoring division supervisors in accomplishing routine and major maintenance projects, coordinating utilization of staff, equipment and materials as required to complete projects, and responding to requests, inquiries and complaints from citizens, administrative staff and local officials regarding road maintenance issues in a division. The work is performed under the direction of assigned supervisory staff.
CONSTANT: Lift and carry up to 10 pounds; hear within 5 feet; and talk/speak.
FREQUENT: Near, midrange and far vision; depth perception; field of vision; grasp; maintain posture; reach; rotate neck; sit; twist at waist; walk; exposure to weather, atmospheric conditions, slippery surfaces, fumes/gases; work alone, with and around others, public contact, work inside and work outside.
OCCASIONAL: Lift and carry up to 50 pounds; visual accommodation; color vision; hear over 20 feet, and with both ears; bend neck; reach over shoulder; stand; static neck position; stoop; turn both wrists; extreme noise, vibration, burns, explosives, elevated surfaces, moving objects, traffic; and extended days.
Minimum Qualifications (Pass/Fail)- High school diploma or its equivalent.
- A Class 'A' Commercial Driver's License without an airbrake restriction.
- Two (2) years as a Highway Maintenance Supervisor, Bridge Supervisor, Shop Supervisor or Sign Supervisor.
- Possess or obtain Erosion and Stormwater Management Certification within twelve (12) months of employment/promotion.
- Points will be awarded based on the applicants answers to supplemental questions 9-14.
