Lake Superior Consulting is seeking a NDE Guided Wave Technician to join our team. The NDE Advanced UT/Guided Wave Technician will play a crucial role in ensuring the integrity and safety of pipelines and related infrastructure through the application of advanced ultrasonic testing (UT) techniques, specifically Guided Wave Testing (GWT). This involves using specialized equipment to send ultrasonic waves along the walls of pipes to detect defects over long distances, often without extensive excavation or insulation removal.
Responsibilities- Setting up and calibrating NDT equipment:
This includes guided wave systems and other advanced ultrasonic testing tools. - Conducting tests:
Performing inspections to detect discontinuities (defects) using guided wave UT and other advanced NDT methods. - Establishing examination techniques:
Developing and applying testing procedures according to industry standards, specifications, and safety regulations. - Analyzing and interpreting data:
Evaluating results from inspections and determining the probability, size, and location of flaws. - Reporting findings:
Organizing and documenting test results in reports, including supporting information like images and scans. - Performing specialized inspections:
Addressing specific client needs and complex inspection scenarios. - May instruct others:
Providing guidance and training to junior technicians. - Maintaining equipment and software:
Ensuring equipment is in good working order and troubleshooting issues.
- NDE Level II Certification:
Particularly in Guided Wave UT, often with specific endorsements such as GUL Level 2 ‘XB’. - Experience with specific equipment and software:
Familiarity with guided wave systems like GUL Wavemaker and Wave Pro Software. - Understanding of NDT methods and procedures:
Strong technical background in NDT principles and applications. - Ability to interpret inspection results:
Demonstrated ability to analyze data accurately and assess integrity. - Experience in report writing:
Creating clear, comprehensive documentation of inspection findings. - Technical background in advanced ultrasonic methods:
Experience with Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT) and Automated Ultrasonic Testing (AUT) corrosion mapping. - Ability to travel:
Willingness to work in various locations. - Strong communication skills:
Effectively interacting with clients, colleagues, and management. - Problem‑solving abilities:
Troubleshooting technical issues and finding solutions. - Adherence to safety protocols:
Ensuring all work is conducted safely and according to regulations. - Knowledge of installing permanent collars for continuous monitoring.

Lake Superior Consulting offers a competitive compensation package. The anticipated salary/hourly range for this position is $45 - $65 per hour.
