Job Purpose/Description
A Campus Fitness Shift Manager will play a vital role in upholding the BWC Campus Fitness responsibilities while supervising the staff as directed. They will aid in assisting the Fitness Center Supervisors and Intramural and Fitness Coordinator in supervising the staff members when directed upon. They will model the college’s Benedictine Values through dedicated job performance, service, collaboration, and support of the college’s higher education goals.
Job Duties
- Supervise, mentor, and motivate the student Fitness Crew
- Supervising and evaluating Fitness Crew members when directed
- Help Fitness Crew members become competent in all areas, including orienting new members to the position
- Assist with supervising cleaning/maintenance of the responsibilities of student employees, including monitoring the Daily Cleaning Sheet and communicating results to Supervisors
- Serve as the on-shift supervisor when Fitness Crew Supervisors and Intramural & Fitness Coordinator are not present in the building
- Uphold opening and closing responsibilities of the BWC when needed
- Understand the use of all keys to ensure proper opening and closure of the building
- Maintain a basic understanding of conflict management
- Handle various incidents, ensure confrontation when needed, and report incidents to Fitness Center Supervisors and Intramural & Fitness Coordinator
- Ensure proper communication with Fitness Center Supervisors and Intramural & Fitness Coordinator at all times
- Communicate with Supervisors and Intramural & Fitness Coordinator regarding student usage altercations, Fitness Center Crew member incidents, building conflicts, etc.
- Partake in routine semester meetings, or as often as the Fitness and Intramural Coordinator deems necessary
- There may be mandatory hours or number of shifts per week depending on the total work force size. These may fluctuate for each sign-up period
- Shift Managers will receive priority scheduling, number of shifts to be determined
Required Qualifications
- Must be a current CSS student
- Federal work study eligibility is required
- At least 1 year of previous regular work experience on the Campus Fitness Crew
- Good academic standing with the College of St. Scholastica
- A desire to gain leadership and management skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous management or supervisory experience
- Organization skills
- Experience with conflict management or resolving problems
