Position: Council Information Officer (Permanent) (Part-Time) - WDN06654

Job Description

As this post is part-time, the salary will be pro-rata to the hours worked.

Work Pattern: 9.30am to 4pm Wednesday, Thursday and Friday with an unpaid 30-minute break.

We are looking for a friendly, professional and organised individual to join our busy Council reception team.

As the first point of contact for residents, visitors and partner agencies, you will play a key role in delivering excellent customer service and ensuring that enquiries are handled efficiently and courteously.

This is a fast-paced environment where no two days are the same. You will be responsible for welcoming visitors, managing enquiries across multiple service areas, and supporting the smooth operation of the reception area.

Key Responsibilities
  • Greet and assist members of the public in a professional and welcoming manner.
  • Handle face-to-face, telephone and email enquiries.
  • Provide information and guidance on Council services.
  • Signpost customers to the appropriate departments and external agencies.
  • Manage appointments, bookings and visitor records.
  • Process forms, applications and payments where required.
  • Maintain accurate records and update computer systems.
  • Support customers who may be vulnerable or experiencing difficult circumstances.
  • Ensure reception and waiting areas are maintained to a high standard.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across a range of Council services.
About You
  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Be confident dealing with a diverse range of customers.
  • Demonstrate strong customer service skills in a busy environment.
  • Be able to remain calm and professional under pressure.
  • Have good IT and administrative skills.
  • Be organised, accurate and able to prioritise competing demands.
  • Work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Have experience in a reception, customer service or administrative role (desirable).
