Join us for an exciting opportunity as a Band 6 Acute Dysphagia Speech & Language Therapist in Speech Therapy located in the beautiful town of Dumfries, UK. Offering a competitive rate of £35.00 per hour for this full-time ongoing position, we are seeking an experienced SLT to work primarily within the realms of acute dysphagia and stroke. Opportunities may also arise to support outpatient services, covering various aspects of Speech and Language Therapy.

Experience in head and neck or voice specialties would be advantageous, though not essential.

What you will do

  • Undertake specialist assessment, diagnosis, and management of adults with dysphagia and acquired communication disorders within acute hospital settings.
  • Manage and prioritise a complex caseload independently, ensuring timely intervention and discharge planning.
  • Deliver evidence-based swallowing assessments and therapeutic interventions according to RCSLT guidance and local clinical protocols.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including stroke, rehabilitation, ENT, nursing, medical, dietetic, and Allied Health Professional teams to support patient‑centred care.

Person Specification

  • Degree or MSc in Speech and Language Therapy recognised by the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT).
  • HCPC registration.
  • Evidence of post‑registration specialist training in dysphagia management.
  • Membership of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (desirable).

Registration & Compliance

  • Current HCPC registration.
  • Adherence to RCSLT Professional Standards and Code of Ethics.
  • Knowledge of NHS Clinical Governance, risk management, and safeguarding responsibilities.
  • Understanding of Equality Act 2010 and relevant NHS Scotland policies.
