Key responsibilities
  • Conduct weekly driving, operating crane and working on sewage treatment sites; be away from home Monday‑Friday.
  • Take the lead role in all lifting operations, securing loads and be responsible for day‑to‑day maintenance of the lorry and crane.
  • Work with Mechanical/electrical engineering team; lifting, removing, installing machinery and manual fitting work.
  • Work outdoors in all weathers, with PPE provided.
  • Overnight stays in the lorry cab; may work Saturday mornings for weekly maintenance.
Requirements
  • Current valid UK driving licence with no more than 6 penalty points.
  • Capacity to work from a base and make overnight stays.
  • Comfortable working on wastewater sites.
  • Capability to work at heights (scaffold, ladders, mechanical equipment).
  • Ability to undertake confined‑space training and work as part of a confined‑space team.
  • Physical fitness for tasks involving strength, stamina, standing, kneeling, crouching.
  • Maintain vehicle cleanliness and serviceability.
Competence and qualifications
  • C+E/HGV 1 licence.
  • LOLER 1998 appreciation and awareness.
  • Valid driver’s CPC and Digi card.
  • Crane Operator licence.
  • Confined spaces training (City and Guilds) desirable.
  • Slinger/crane supervisor qualification.
  • Mechanical Engineering background desirable.
Skills & attributes
  • At least 2 years’ Class 1 driving experience.
  • Qualified crane operator with experience.
  • Knowledge of BS7121 (British Standard Code of Practice for safe crane use).
  • Experience with loading flatbed wagons and securing loads.
  • Basic mechanical fitting knowledge.
  • Basic health & safety knowledge in construction industry.
  • Prioritise workload, systematic and organised working.
  • Friendly, professional, reliable, good people skills, team oriented.
  • Effective communication with customers, management and staff.
  • Cooperates with other staff and trades.
  • Promotes a positive company image.
Salary and benefits
  • Circa £35,000 – £45,000 OTE (DOE).
