Vacancy Information

The salary advertised is full time (35 hours per week, 52 weeks per year). Part-time hours / sessional posts will be pro-rated accordingly.

Hourly rate of pay: £15.16 - £16.30

Temporary until 29th June 2027.
This is a 38-week sessional post i.e., working hours will be during school term time only.

Days and hours of work:
Monday - Thursday, 10:45-15:30 (30 minute break).
Friday, 09:15-12:15
To start asap.

West Barns Primary School is looking for a dedicated and nurturing Additional Support Needs Assistant to join our friendly and welcoming school team. The Additional Support Needs Assistant will work across the school, focusing on learners between P1-4. The successful candidate will use trauma informed and inclusive practices to pupil support learning and engagement.

West Barns is a semi-rural primary school in East Lothian with 5 composite classes in the primary school and a 40-place term time nursery. Our learners, school team and families benefit from a large playground with ample opportunities for outdoor learning, a supportive parent council, and a new-build nursery. We have a committed staff team and are looking for someone who will play a key part in building on our success

To provide care and assistance to individuals and small groups of pupils with additional support needs.

Job Requirements

Relevant Qualifications
Good standard of general education.
Experience of working with or caring for children with additional support needs.

Nursery Only:
SSSC registration is an essential requirement of this role. If you are appointed and are not already a member of the relevant section of the SSSC Register, you will be required to apply for registration within 3 months of your start date to ensure that you are registered within the required 6 months.

PVG Membership
This post is considered as a Regulated Role with vulnerable children and/or protected adults, as specified in the Disclosure (Scotland) Act 2020.

All preferred candidates for posts carrying out regulated work with these groups will be required to become a PVG Scheme member, or undergo a PVG Scheme update if they are already a member, prior to any formal offer of employment being made by East Lothian Council.
