Are you a hardworking and growth oriented individual looking to make a career switch? The Universal Group, recognized as one of Canada’s Best Managed companies in 2025, has an opening in its Traffic Control team for a Lane Closure Technician (LCT). In this role you will support the safety of road workers, crews and the public by setting up, maintaining and removing traffic control measures in work zones across the lower mainland.
Responsibilities- Traffic Control: Lead traffic control personnel; set up and tear down signs; provide clear directions and signals for motorists; monitor traffic and adjust zones when scope changes.
- Safety and Compliance: Conduct traffic control within scope of training; comply with Acts, Regulations, Guidelines, Policies and Procedures for health and safety; participate in accident/incident investigations and complete required reports.
- Special Events: Conduct traffic control at special events following the direction of the company’s Special Events coordinator.
- Reporting and Communication: Report directly to the contractor’s site supervisor; communicate health and safety matters, non‑compliance issues or conflicts with area manager or Health and Safety Officer.
- Safety Gear and Equipment: Wear all required PPE; use two‑way radios properly; avoid profane or vulgar language.
- Certification and Training: Maintain a current BC Traffic Control Person (TCP) certificate.
- Minimum 6 months of BC LCT experience.
- Current TCP certification recognized by WorkSafeBC or equivalent provincial regulator.
- Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
- Possession of and ability to use a smartphone with a data plan.
- Good knowledge of WorkSafeBC Traffic Control Part
18 regulations. - Knowledge of the WCB Act, sections
115‑117, General Duties. - Knowledge of Traffic Management Plans and the Traffic Management Manual for Work on Roadways (Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure).
- Knowledge of the British Columbia Motor Vehicle Act and related traffic control regulations.
- Strong accountability, collaboration, conflict‑management, direct‑work leadership, situational adaptability and planning skills aligned with organizational goals.
- Signing bonus of $1000 for experienced LCTs.
