This position is responsible for interacting with customers and team members, supporting selling initiatives, and performing assigned tasks while providing excellent customer service.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Min 5%)As a Team Member, you must be available, flexible, adaptable, and service-oriented. You should be able to fulfill all of the following requirements:
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
- Work scheduled shifts, including varied hours, days, nights, weekends, and overtime as needed.
- Support selling initiatives (TEAM):
- Thank the Customer
- Engage with the customer and/or pet
- Advise on products or services
- Make the experience Memorable
- Perform a combination of duties during 95% of your day, including:
- Operate cash register/computer following established cash handling procedures
- Recover merchandise
- Participate in freight process
- Complete Plan-o-gram procedures (merchandising, sets, resets)
- Assemble merchandise
- Perform janitorial duties
- Execute price changes/markdowns
- Assist customers with loading purchases
- Ensure the safety and well-being of live animals, including sanitizing tanks and caring for animals as required
- Complete all related documentation
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Experience:
No experience required; retail experience and/or pet/live animal knowledge is preferred.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent is preferred but not required. Must be able to read, write, and count accurately.
- Pet/live animal, pet food, and pet product knowledge is preferred.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Basic computer skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to resolve issues ethically and with minimal conflict.
- Generally indoor environment with moderate noise.
- Hard surfaces (concrete, asphalt) with adequate lighting and temperature.
- Shifts generally no less than 4 hours and may exceed 8 hours.
- Promote a safe, productive environment and adhere to safety guidelines.
- This is a non-sedentary position requiring movement throughout the store and outdoor areas.
- Operate equipment safely and efficiently.
- Occasionally lift or reach merchandise overhead.
- Stand, kneel, twist, crouch, squat, bend, stoop, and climb ladders frequently.
- Move throughout the store for entire shifts.
- Access all store areas safely.
- Operate store equipment including computers and cash registers.
- Read, write, and count accurately for documentation.
- Communicate effectively with team members and customers.
- Process merchandise through the POS system.
- Lift and transfer items up to 50 pounds.
- Complete all required training and certifications.
