Overview
MSD Registered Nurse - Substitute (Contractual Position) at Maryland School for the Deaf (MSD). This is an on-call, 10-month school-year substitute nursing role to provide direct nursing care to students.

Main Purpose of JobA Registered Nurse performs direct nursing care to students and serves as an on-call substitute during the 10-month school year.
Responsibilities- Administer medications (oral, topical, inhalation, and injections) as prescribed.
- Assess, evaluate, and monitor students’ medical and emotional health status and identify nursing needs.
- Maintain accurate nursing records and observations and treatment according to procedures.
- Maintain the student health center facility.
- Provide auxiliary duties as needed. On-call substitutes must be available on an on-call basis.
- Commit to contractual terms of the position.
- Education: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Nursing under licensing requirements for Registered Nurses.
- Experience: None.
Preferred Qualifications
- Pediatric, school, or camp nurse experience desirable.
- Experience with or willingness to learn American Sign Language (ASL).
- Current Registered Nurse license from the Maryland State Board of Nursing or a current multi-state license with primary states of residence.
- Possession of a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in Maryland if duties require automobile operation.
- May be required to maintain current CPR certification.
- Must be reachable by phone for call-in on on-call basis.
- Subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09.
- New hires subject to criminal background investigation (at own expense).
- Provide three letters of recommendation.

BenefitsContractual employees eligible for State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits if they meet eligibility criteria (e.g., 30+ hours/week). Employees pay 25% of medical/prescription premiums; the State subsidizes 75%. Optional dental, AD&D, and life insurance may be elected with full premium paid by the employee. Leave accrual is up to 40 hours per calendar year after meeting eligibility.
