Agile Decision Sciences is seeking a Front End GUI Engineer to support the RSCCE system for the CECOM Army Software Innovation Center at Aberdeen Proving Ground. RSCCE is a long-lived, mission-critical system built on legacy Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) VAX/OpenVMS platforms, with operator displays developed in the Sherrill-Lubinski Graphical Modeling System (SL-GMS) on DECwindows Motif, OpenVMS’s integrated X Window/Motif environment, and application code in Fortran 77.

You will sustain, troubleshoot and enhance the system’s graphical operator interface, working alongside the RSCCE Cyber Engineer and Database Engineer. This is a rare opportunity for an engineer who enjoys bridging legacy and modern technology on a system that directly supports strategic satellite communications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain, modify and enhance RSCCE operator graphical displays and front-end applications built in SL-GMS on DECwindows Motif and Fortran 77 on DEC VAX/OpenVMS.
  • Work directly with system users and operators to capture requirements and translate them into software and display design changes.
  • Analyze, test, troubleshoot, patch, update and install software on the RSCCE baseline.
  • Resolve application errors and software bugs; identify root causes and recommend mitigation or resolution actions.
  • Implement enhancements through RFCs and other change vehicles (e.g., IAVAs), following the CECOM SEC Change Advisory Board (CAB) process.
  • Develop interfaces and test tools with an emphasis on automation; participate in test planning and execute testing of display and application changes.
  • Support analysis and planning for modernization or migration of legacy RSCCE components.
  • Document software design and prepare deliverables, including Technical Reports, Test Plans/Reports, Software Version Descriptions, ECPs and Deployment Plans
Required Qualifications
  • At least 12 years within the last 15 years designing, developing and testing applications, including GUI, services and database tiers.
  • Experience formulating and analyzing software requirements, and assisting system engineers with tradeoff analysis of technologies and approaches.
  • Experience developing interfaces and test tools, with an emphasis on automation.
  • Experience creating scalable, maintainable and extensible databases, and supporting testing and integration of applications and databases.
  • Experience documenting software and database design and associated tools.
  • Experience with the Sherrill-Lubinski Graphical Modeling System (SL-GMS).
  • Experience with the X Window System / DECwindows Motif (OpenVMS’s integrated X Window/Motif graphical environment).
  • Experience with Fortran 77.
  • Experience with Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) VAX and OpenVMS.
  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical discipline or or 4+ additional years of equivalent professional work experience.
  • Active DoW Secret security clearance or higher. Candidates without a minimum of a Secret clearance will not be considered.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • Experience migrating legacy VAX/OpenVMS or Fortran applications to modern platforms or emulation environments.
  • Experience supporting satellite control, SATCOM or other real-time command-and-control systems.
  • Prior experience supporting Army CECOM or APG-based programs.
Work Environment
  • Work is performed onsite at Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD, in a secure Government lab.
  • Occasional CONUS travel may be required.
  • Must be able to work in an environment that handles classified information and follow all AT/INFOSEC/OPSEC requirements.
