About us

Andrew Black Design is a design-led architectural practice established in 2002. Based in our welcoming city-centre studio in Dundee, we have a strong commitment to producing thoughtful, high-quality architecture and believe every project presents an opportunity to bring a little joy to our buildings.

We’re looking for a Senior Architect with a minimum of 5 years' post-Part 3 experience to join our dynamic and growing practice. This is a senior position offering opportunities for progression to Associate or Director for the right candidate.

The role

You’ll work across a diverse and exciting portfolio, including high-end private residential, rural social housing, conservation projects, and work for the MOD.

The role is preferably full time, but we’d be open to a reduced role to suit candidates, with a minimum of 3 days.

You’ll be client-facing and confident taking projects from inception through planning, building warrant, tender and contract administration. You will also:

  • Develop strong relationships with clients and project stakeholders.
  • Lead and coordinate multi-disciplinary design teams.
  • Contribute to bids, fee proposals and business development.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and consultants to deliver high-quality projects.
About you

We’re seeking an experienced Architect with a broad understanding of different building types. A commercially-minded candidate interested in developing and growing the business would be particularly well suited.

You will have:

  • A minimum of 5 years' post-Part 3 experience.
  • Strong experience delivering projects through the full architectural process.
  • Excellent client-facing and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD (essential).
  • Working knowledge of Revit (preferred).
  • Proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Working knowledge of NBS (desirable).
  • Experience working on listed building projects (desirable).
  • Experience with BREEAM/DREAM (desirable).
  • A proactive approach and an ambition to progress within the practice.
What we offer
  • Competitive salary and bonus structure.
  • Medical insurance.
  • Share options.
  • Professional membership fees paid by the practice, including ARB, RIAS, RIBA, APS, etc.
  • An active in-house CPD programme, including office-based sessions and external visits.
  • Support for further learning and individual training goals, with opportunities to develop specialist areas of expertise.
  • A healthy work-life balance with flexible working options.
  • An active and friendly social culture, including monthly staff lunches, study trips and the occasional party.
