Position: Linesman Erector 1 OHL

About The Role

At Balfour Beatty, we’re entering an exciting period of growth across Scotland’s transmission network and are looking for a Linesman Erector 1 (Overhead Lines) to join our expanding team. You’ll initially be supporting works along the East Coast of Scotland, with the opportunity to work across a wider range of transmission projects as the programme develops. The role involves the installation and maintenance of high‑voltage overhead power lines, working on systems of up to 400kV
, while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and productivity. Flexibility is key in this role — projects and locations will evolve as the Scottish portfolio grows, offering long‑term opportunities to contribute to vital national infrastructure and be part of a team shaping the future of the network.

What you'll be doing
  • Install, build and refurbish overhead power lines on projects up to 400kV
  • Carry out a wide range of core OHL activities including tower works, conductor running, clamping, jumpering, spacering, jointing and downleads
  • Safely use and maintain OHL equipment such as ropes, fittings, lifting gear, fall‑arrest systems and climbing equipment
  • Work in line with approved method statements, risk assessments and safe systems of work
  • Complete daily risk assessments and actively maintain site safety at all times
  • Report accidents, incidents and near misses promptly and accurately
  • Apply appropriate earthing schemes to manage induced voltages
  • Support the setup and dismantling of catenary support systems (CSS)
  • Operate plant and equipment only where appropriately trained and authorised
  • Assist with mentoring and training Trainee Linesmen and support team development
  • Work collaboratively with foremen, engineers, subcontractors and wider site teams
  • Ensure all work meets high quality standards and client requirements

Essential Experience And Qualities
  • Experience working on OHL transmission networks
  • Knowledge of overhead line activities and safe working practices
  • A strong commitment to health, safety and environmental standards
  • Confidence working at height and in safety‑critical environments
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Flexibility to travel and work on sites across the UK
  • Ability to perform well in high‑pressure or challenging conditions
  • Full, clean UK driving licence
Desirable
  • Valid plant tickets and OHL authorisations
  • Emergency First Aid at Work
  • Experience with MEWPs, winch operations or crane support activities
