Rubicon Consulting is currently recruiting for an Electrical Supervisor on a 12 month contract, located in Orkney Islands (accommodation, flights and transfers to site are provided).

Role Overview

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Secondary Supervisor to support GIS (Gas Insulated Switchgear) installation works on a project in the Orkney Islands. This role will involve assisting the Site Manager in coordinating site activities, ensuring safe execution of works, and maintaining high-quality delivery standards within a live or controlled substation environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the Site Manager in the day-to-day running of substation installation works
  • Supervise and coordinate GIS installation activities, ensuring adherence to project specifications
  • Ensure all works are carried out in accordance with industry regulations, site procedures, and health & safety standards
  • Oversee operatives and subcontractors, ensuring productivity, quality, and compliance
  • Assist with method statements, risk assessments (RAMS), and permit-to-work systems
  • Conduct site inspections, audits, and toolbox talks
  • Monitor progress and provide updates to the Site Manager
  • Promote and enforce a strong safety culture in a high-risk environment
Essential Requirements
  • Valid CSCS Card
  • SSSTS (Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme)
  • Proven experience with GIS (Gas Insulated Switchgear) installation within the power/substation sector
  • Strong understanding of substation safety protocols and procedures
  • Experience working in live or high-voltage environments
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and documentation
Desirable Requirements
  • SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme) - preferred but not essential
  • Previous experience in a supervisory role on substation or transmission projects
  • Knowledge of UK power industry standards and regulations
