Connect Appointments is recruiting a Cable Design and Costing Engineer to join an established manufacturer in Dundee.

This is a role with genuine influence, you’ll take customer requirements and turn them into manufacturable, cost-effective solutions, working directly with customers on technical proposals and closely with production to make sure every design stacks up both technically and commercially.

As a Cable Design and Costing Engineer, your duties will include:
  • Designing wire and cable products to meet customer specs and industry standards
  • Producing construction drawings, material specs and manufacturing instructions
  • Costing designs across materials, labour and production to keep pricing competitive
  • Preparing technical proposals and quotes directly for customers
  • Working with production to make sure designs can actually be built
  • Running feasibility studies and suggesting changes to improve performance or cut cost
To be considered as a Cable Design and Costing Engineer, you will need:
  • A degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Materials Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Proven cable design experience in manufacturing – conductors, insulation, shielding and jacketing
  • Strong costing and estimating skills
  • CAD experience (TurboCAD preferred), plus Excel and Visio
  • Working knowledge of standards such as UL, CSA and IEC
  • The ability to explain technical detail clearly to non-technical people
