Required Higher Qualifications- Maths – Applications of Maths NOT accepted at any Scottish university

Pathways to becoming a qualified civil engineer include:
- Degree:
BEng / MEng Civil Engineering (4 years at university or 5 years for MEng) - Graduate Apprenticeship in Civil Engineering (Heriot‑Watt) – 4–5 years, employer‑funded
To practise as a civil engineer in Scotland you must register with the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE). Registration is required by law and must be maintained through continuing professional development.
SalaryNewly qualified civil engineers can expect a starting salary of £28,000–£35,000. With 5–10 years of experience, the range broadens to £45,000–£65,000. Chartered status (CEng) typically unlocks higher earnings.
Tuition and FundingScottish‑domiciled students applying through UCAS can receive tuition fees funded by SAAS for undergraduate degrees. Apprenticeships are funded through Skills Development Scotland.
