Mechanical Design Engineer | Dundee (Onsite) | £38-45K + paid overtime
Most mechanical engineers spend their careers on one slice of a product. This role gives you the whole thing: mechanisms you help design, prototype, test and release into high-volume manufacture.
You’ll join an established engineering team in Dundee designing high-speed electromechanical devices, built to run reliably across very different climates and environments worldwide. It’s precision mechanism work, and you’ll see your designs in production.
What you’ll be doing
- Supporting new and existing products from a mechanical design perspective
- Evaluating technologies and backing your recommendations with analysis
- Designing mechanisms and working with tooling suppliers and part manufacturers
- Delivering cost-effective designs to spec and engineering standards
- Running design reviews, stress and tolerance analysis, testing and root-cause problem solving
- Managing supplier engagement and engineering change
- Working closely with electronics and software engineers
- Releasing design changes with full supporting documentation
What you’ll bring
- A degree in Mechanical Engineering and around 2+ years’ relevant experience
- Solid CAD skills in Creo/ProE or Solid Works, plus drawing, dimensioning and tolerancing
- Stress and tolerance analysis; FEA or simulation experience is a plus
- Design for manufacture across plastic moulding, sheet metal and tooling
- An understanding of mechanical drive systems and rapid prototyping
- Bonus points for mechanism design or assemblies with PCBs and harnesses
- Happy to travel internationally now and then for customer support and analysis
This is a fully onsite role, and for good reason: you’ll be hands-on with the hardware every day, building, testing and troubleshooting the mechanisms you design rather than working from a screen alone.
What’s in it for you
- A team where people stay: many of the engineers here have built long careers on site, so you’ll learn from colleagues with years of deep product knowledge
- Genuine career development, with structured learning and room to grow your technical scope over time
- Broad, hands-on mechanism design experience across the full product lifecycle, which is hard to find elsewhere
- Strong pension, private medical and dental, life and income protection, and health screening
- Holiday buy, cycle to work and a range of lifestyle discounts
