About

The Role

This is an exciting time to join our team, working with the Research and Development department in the delivery of an innovative and expanding research program. The successful applicant will have opportunities to support their development, with measurable objectives agreed to stretch you and continually improve the service.

Tayside Medical Sciences Centre (TASC) was established in 2010 to combine the established research strengths of NHS Tayside and the University of Dundee. A key aim of this partnership is to catalise the design and delivery of clinical research in a safe, effective and efficient manner and to increase opportunities for participation in clinical research within our region. TASC is a core part of NHS Research Scotland and plays a significant role in the clinical research infrastructure of Tayside.

There is a portfolio of 100+ Clinical Trials of Investigational Medicinal Products active at any time with approximately 40 new CTIMPs commencing each year.

The post holder will be a member of the growing pharmacy clinical trials team at NHS Tayside. Potential candidates will have demonstrable experience in hospital pharmacy at band 6 level including in- and outpatient dispensary and clinical ward pharmacy.

Key Responsibilities
  • To maintain and support the Pharmacy Clinical Trials service in accordance with current UK Clinical Trials Regulations and all amendments, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Good Manufacturing Practice, Good Distribution Practice guidelines and department procedures, ensuring the provision of a high‑quality service to non-commercial and commercial sponsors, clinical trial units, contract research organisations (CROs), staff and patients at NHS Tayside
  • Undertake comprehensive pharmacy review of proposed new clinical trials involving investigational medicines, liaising, and negotiating with the trial sponsor, relevant investigator and research and pharmacy personnel
  • Contribute to the pharmacy set up of approved clinical trials by attending multidisciplinary meetings as pharmacy trials representative and developing trial specific documents necessary to ensure the trial is conducted, completed, and archived in compliance with GCP
  • Providing advice and support to the wider research service, including participation in research MDT meetings, implementation of protocol amendments and undertaking professional pharmacist activities to supporting the preparation, final checking and supply of clinical trial medicines
  • Assist with managing and resolving day-to-day queries raised by the research teams, sponsors, clinical trial units, and CROs
