Location:

Dundee, including local community outreach work (with elements of evening and weekend work)

Fixed Term, until September 2026

Salary: £30,869 appointed / £31,278 confirmed / £33,039 advanced (all pro rata)

An exciting opportunity for a committed and motivated Community Advisor has arisen to join our existing team at Connections, Dundee. This role is part of an exciting test for change project, working in partnership with Dundee Health and Social Care Partnership and NHS Tayside, which has grown and evolved since April 2024, based on local autistic voice.

Connections is an information, advice and support hub for adults who identify as autistic, at any point of their journey. Providing 1:1 information and advice via phone, email or in person, peer support groups, as well as signposting and support to access other services and activities within the local area.

In the role, you will:
  • Provide information, advice, support and guidance to autistic adults, families and interested professionals.
  • Offer support to autistic adults wherever they may be on their journey – self-identify, pre- and post-diagnosis.
  • Deliver and facilitate a range of opportunities to autistic adults and their families.
  • Promote awareness and understanding of the needs of autistic adults among professionals and the Dundee community.
  • Engage with individuals and groups to enable access to other local services and activities.
  • Support the development and collation of a range of resources that are accessible and available to those in Dundee/Tayside.
  • Collaboratively identify areas of development to ensure autistic adult needs are met.
About You:
  • Lived Experience and/or autism practice, with the knowledge to apply theory into practice.
  • Contemporary knowledge and understanding of autism, autistic people and their families across the lifespan.
  • Experience of supporting complex situations where a person might be experiencing heightened levels of distress or confusion.
  • Active listening skills and able to respond empathetically.
  • Provide enabling support to empower autistic people and their families.
  • Ability to translate complex theoretical knowledge into accessible and practical advice.
  • Have sound knowledge of education, health and social service contexts across Scotland as they apply to autistic people and their families.
