With effect from 01 April 2026, NHS Scotland is reducing its full time working week from 37 to 36 hours per week, there will be no change in full time pay.

A permanent position has become available within the Genetic Service for a Healthcare Science Practitioner. Applicants should have an Honours Degree in an appropriate biological science or SVQ Level4 or equivalent in Science with a Biology component. The successful candidate will undertake a broad range of testing procedures on a variety of samples referred to the Service with a particular emphasis on the delivery of next-generation sequencing.

The post-holder will generate genetic test results and consequently must work in a careful and meticulous manner and adhere to all laboratory standard operating procedures. As a Practitioner you will be working as part of the Technical Team alongside Assistants, Associates and Senior Practitioners to deliver the majority of practical work required for an effective Service. Continued professional development and training will be actively encouraged to enable the successful applicant to achieve appropriate registration as a Practitioner.

The Regional Genetic Service is a large friendly team of Technical, Scientific and Clinical staff who provide a first‑class service to patients and families from Tayside /NE Fife and elsewhere in Scotland. The Service offers modern, well equipped facilities situated within Ninewells Hospital. This is an excellent opportunity for suitably motivated applicants to further their career within the NHS and gain experience within a diagnostic Genetic Service.
