Fixed‑term post (12 months)

Responsibilities
  • Lead the histopathology section of the Pathology Department, providing expert advice and representing the laboratory at an organisational level where necessary.
  • Manage and support the delivery of histology and immunocytochemistry services across an annual workload of approximately 50,000 surgical pathology specimens and 180,000 procedures.
  • Work with and support the Clinical Laboratory Manager in the development of the histopathology service.
  • Maintain high standards of clinical governance, risk management and audit.
  • Provide excellent communication and leadership within a busy but friendly department.
Qualifications
  • IBMS Accredited Honours Degree in Biomedical Science, HCPC registered as a Biomedical Scientist.
  • IBMS post‑registration Specialist Diploma in Cellular Pathology (or equivalent).
  • IBMS accredited MSc in Biomedical Science (or equivalent).
  • Extensive knowledge of cellular pathology, histology and immunocytochemistry at a specialist level.
  • Excellent management skills; a relevant management qualification desirable.
  • Demonstrated current continuing professional development.
  • Good understanding of clinical governance, risk management and audit.

Hours of work are 36 hours per week. The base for this post is at Ninewells Hospital, Dundee. The Department is a UKAS accredited medical laboratory (No. 8682) and has IBMS Training Approval Status for pre and post registration training.
