Trainee Education Mental Health Practitioner

We have Trainee Education Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP) opportunities available across Bradford and Craven – a chance to work and study within a rapidly growing team supporting children and young people in educational settings.
These are 12‑month fixed‑term trainee posts at Agenda for Change (AfC) Band
4. Successful candidates will undertake the EMHP training programme, delivered at Prestwich, attending university two days per week from September 2026, while working in service for the remaining three days. Trainees will be paid at Band 4 during the training period. Upon successful completion of the EMHP Postgraduate Diploma and registration with a recognised professional body, the role will become permanent at AfC Band 5.

Job Purpose:
- Deliver evidence‑based interventions for children and young people with mild to moderate mental health problems in education settings.
- Help children and young people with more severe problems to rapidly access more specialist services.
- Support and facilitate staff in education settings to identify, and where appropriate, manage issues related to mental health and wellbeing.
- Work with and within educational environments to afford better access to specialist mental health services.
- Evidently develop those skills with associated knowledge acquisition to record and evidence progression towards an academic award and demonstrable practical ability.
- Diploma or equivalent qualification (e.g., foundation degree or NVQ3 level qualification plus short courses or relevant experience to diploma level).
- Studying for a postgraduate diploma; evidence of ability to study at level 7 is required.
- Evidence of working with children and young people who experience common mental health difficulties including anxiety and/or depression.
- Demonstrates high standards in written communication.
- Working knowledge of Health, Social and caring services, education and voluntary sector, together with the relevant legislation regarding both children and mental health.
- Demonstrates knowledge and skills to safeguard and protect children and young people's welfare in line with the Children’s Act 2004 requirements.
- Able to write clear reports and letters.
- Ability to manage own caseload and time.
- Experience working within a school setting, a mental health setting, and with children.
- Experience working within an organisation with agreed standards and targets to demonstrate outcomes.
- Evidence of working within the local community.
- Increase mileage rates for >4500.
