Production Manager

Position: Production Manager (Permanent)
We are recruiting for an experienced, hands-on Production Manager to lead operations within a busy and well-established precision engineering environment.

This is a key leadership role with full responsibility for day-to-day production performance across a skilled machine shop team. The successful candidate will drive planning, workflow and delivery while maintaining strong commercial awareness and customer focus.

You will be responsible for ensuring projects move efficiently through production, resources are aligned to demand, and operational performance consistently meets business and customer expectations.

Responsibilities include:

Leading, motivating and developing a skilled production team within a machine shop environment

Driving structured production planning and scheduling to ensure on-time delivery across multiple concurrent projects

Monitoring operational performance against KPIs and supporting monthly reporting

Working closely with sales and estimating functions to ensure capacity planning and margin protection

Maintaining strong customer relationships through proactive communication and performance reviews

Negotiating with subcontractors and suppliers to secure cost-effective and timely external support

Maintaining high shop floor standards through clear work instructions and regular toolbox talks

Providing hands-on technical support, including CNC machining involvement where required to balance workload and meet urgent deadlines

Identifying and implementing continuous improvement initiatives to reduce downtime and strengthen planning accuracy

Ideally you will have experience operating at Production Manager level within a machining or precision engineering environment. You will be technically credible, commercially aware and comfortable leading from the front. Strong planning, organisational and communication skills are essential, as is the ability to balance operational delivery with longer-term performance improvement.
