Overview
Do you want to help people and nature thrive together in Dundee? Wild Dundee is an exciting RSPB Scotland project working with communities across the city. We work alongside local organisations and community groups to transform outdoor spaces, deliver activities and build confidence for people to take action for nature.
We’re looking for friendly, enthusiastic volunteers to join our growing Wild Dundee team.
What you’ll be doingAs a Wild Dundee Community Volunteer
, you may choose to support a variety of activities across our community sites. These could include:
- Welcoming participants and helping everyone feel included.
- Supporting practical conservation activities such as planting, habitat creation and garden maintenance.
- Assisting with community workshops, family activities and nature events.
- Helping people take part in citizen science activities, wildlife surveys and species identification.
- Encouraging conversations about nature and sharing information about Wild Dundee and the RSPB.
- Supporting event set-up and pack-down.
- Helping with photography and ensuring photo consent is managed appropriately.
- Supporting safeguarding procedures and helping create a safe, welcoming environment for everyone.
- Sharing ideas to help shape future activities and community projects.
Some volunteers enjoy supporting activities across several Wild Dundee sites, while others prefer to become a regular volunteer at one location. We’re happy to discuss what works best for you.
What you’ll gainVolunteering with Wild Dundee is a fantastic opportunity to:
- Meet new people and become part of a friendly volunteer team.
- Learn practical conservation and gardening skills.
- Develop confidence supporting community groups and events.
- Gain experience in community engagement, environmental education and conservation.
- Access a wide range of online and practical RSPB training, including opportunities to develop skills in wildlife identification, citizen science, safeguarding, health and safety, community engagement and much more.
- Make a positive difference for both people and nature across Dundee.
- Friendly, welcoming and enjoy working with others.
- Passionate about helping people connect with nature (no expert knowledge required).
- Reliable and happy to work as part of a team.
- Willing to learn and support a range of community activities.
No previous experience is necessary – we’ll provide support, guidance and training.
Time commitmentThere’s no minimum commitment. You can volunteer as little or as often as suits you. Activities take place across weekdays and occasionally at weekends, and we’ll work with you to find opportunities that fit around your availability.
Accessibility and inclusionWe want Wild Dundee to be welcoming and accessible to everyone. If there are any adjustments that would help you volunteer with us, we’d love to discuss them. This could include adapting tasks, providing additional support, adjusting activity times or identifying the most suitable locations based on your needs.
