We're representing a well-established and highly regarded independent accountancy and business advisory firm based in Edinburgh, known for delivering trusted accounting, advisory, and outsourced finance services to SMEs, owner-managed businesses, and individuals across Scotland. Due to continued growth, they are seeking an Outsourced Finance Assistant / Bookkeeper to join their expanding team. Key Responsibilities- Process invoices, expenses, and other financial transactions accurately and efficiently
- Complete bank and control account reconciliations
- Prepare VAT files and VAT returns, including month-end reconciliations
- Support credit control processes for a portfolio of clients
- Assist with online accounting software set-up and implementation
- Liaise directly with clients and HMRC regarding bookkeeping and VAT queries
- Maintain accurate filing systems and document management processes
- Support departmental managers with ad-hoc client assignments
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to deliver a proactive client service
- Maintain up-to-date technical knowledge of accounting software and VAT regulations
- Minimum 2 years' experience within an accountancy practice or bookkeeping environment
- Strong experience using cloud accounting software such as Xero, Quick Books, Sage, or similar systems
- Good understanding of VAT processes and bookkeeping procedures
- Excellent IT and software skills with the ability to quickly learn new systems
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- Ability to work independently and prioritise workload effectively
- Proactive, adaptable, and client-focused with strong attention to detail
